However, these pros often cause people to overlook the negative points associated with having a pet parrot, and they rush out and buy a parrot without properly considering how much time and effort is required to properly look after one. Very sadly, this results in lots of acquiring behavioural problems.

Although there are over 350 , and each species has slightly different parrot care needs, there are certain common ‘parrot care’ factors that are important to all of them:

Cages – Nothing has more of an impact on a parrot’s mental health than the size of its cage. The cage needs to be easily big enough to enable your parrot to fully spread out and flap its wings. There also needs to be enough room in the cage for five large parrot toys, without the parrot being cramped. Frequently check the cage for damage that could harm your bird (e.g. sharp metal edges caused by your parrot chewing the cage).

Socialization – When are left on their own, they often experience mental health problems. Therefore, it is very important that they get lots of social interaction with you and your family – treat him like a member of your family, and he will act like one! The best way to ensure this happens is to place the cage in a location in your home where you and your family spend the majority of your time. For example, human saliva contains bacteria which is very harmful to .

You also need to provide water baths or water sprays every day to keep your ’ feathers in really good condition.

In conclusion, if you are prepared to provide the proper parrot care, owning a parrot is really enjoyable and rewarding. thrive in normal household environments, and they make fantastic pets and companions. My love bird loves betta bites. I took a good look at the ingredients and everything is natural and it has a good portion of protein so I give it to him once in a while. Look over the ingredients research anything you don’t know and make sure there isn’t anything that your bird shouldn’t have. icon smile Parrot Care Tips The Five Things You Must Do

NO! Fish food is for FISH! What’s wrong with you?

  • Your parrot probably likes the fish food because it has a strong taste, but it’s not meant to be eaten by birds. Fish food has much less quality control than bird food. There could be contaminants in the fish food that would be bad for your parrot (bacterial or other).

In general, parrots should be eating a base diet of pellets. You can supplement the pellet diet with fruits and vegetables, and a bit of nut and egg, for variety. The fish food you are feeding your parrot probably has a lot of protein. Other, bird-appropriate, foods with a lot of protein are nuts, hard-boiled or scrambled eggs, or a small bit of hard cheese. You can treat him with a small bit of these foods and he’ll really enjoy it. Very flavorful parrot foods are dried or fresh chili or jalapeno peppers (my birds love these!).

Please read up on your parrot’s specific species to know what you should be feeding him. I have given you some good general guidelines, but some species have slightly different needs. Your veterinarian could also answer questions about your parrot’s diet.

Animal food is (at least in theory) formulated for the nutritional needs of the specific animal.

    Fish food is for fish.
    Bird food is for birds.

Feeding fish food to the bird is depriving him of a proper meal. Besides lacking avian nutritional requirements, you could be overdosing the bird on certain chemicals that are for fish.

    So, STOP IT!

Stop, no it’s not O.K. FISH food is formulated for fish, Not birds. Just because your bird likes something doesn’t mean it’s good for him. You have to be responsible, your bird relies on you to feed him a good diet, with all the vitamins and minerals he needs to live a long and healthy life. People who are not willing to research what is needed and do the right thing for their pets, shouldn’t have pets.
Parrots need a good quality seed/pellets, fruit and veggies, fresh water, a mineral block, may be a cuttle bone, a clean cage and an owner responsible enough to do the right thing.

Hi there. High quality fish food is packed with protein and phytonutrients. I believe as an occasional snack, things should be fine. Stick to your good pellet food, limit seeds to no more than 10% and add fresh fruits and veggies 10-20% with a sprinkle of fish food. Cool idea. Variety is essential since no standard for bird food has been established as of yet. Have a great year.
